THE BEAR
HUNTER
Thanks for visiting our website. We are
in the bear hunting business because of our love for the outdoors and
our love of the chase. There is nothing we want more than to get you
within range of a big bear or into a one-on-one fight with a big fish.
Hunting groups are small so we can provide better service.
Our base camp is "The Bear Hunter," my 59-foot motor sailboat
with three double staterooms, each with full private bath, a
well-equipped galley, comfortable salon, refrigeration and many other
amenities. The boat offers mobility to change location for
different hunts and conditions. We use a small skiff to go a shore for
hunting and return to "The Bear Hunter" at night. In the Spring,
we hunt the shoreline for the bears that come out for the new grass in
the many bays in the hunting area. In the Fall, we hunt the salmon
streams for the bears on their last big feed before Winter. At hunt’s
end, we’ll cape out your bear and prepare it for shipping.
The fishing trips are either day trips for salmon or halibut or 5-day
trips based on "The Bear Hunter." For those with limited time, we
can base out of Kodiak and pick you up at the dock in the
morning for a full day of fishing. We provide all the gear, coffee,
refreshments and lunch. At the end of the day, we’ll fillet your catch
and get it ready to freeze. The longer trips offer the chance to slow
down and enjoy your vacation since we anchor close to the fish and spend
less time commuting. There is time to fire up the grill and savor some
really fresh fish, set out the crab pot and do some river fishing where
it is not uncommon to land 20 fish in a morning.
On the hunting and longer fishing trips, you will typically fly out to
the boat. Cost is about $650 roundtrip if weight is less than 750 lbs.,
$850 if over.
